So I think I’m as concerned about fairness and justice as anybody. But what disgusts me even more are people who have no imagination. The kind T. S. Eliot calls hollow men. People who fill up that lack of imagination with heartless bits of straw, not even aware of what they’re doing. Callous people who throw a lot of empty words at you, trying to force you to do what you don’t want to. […] Gays, lesbians, straights, feminists, fascist pigs, communists, Hare Krishnas ? none of them bother me. I don’t care what banner they raise. But what I can’t stand are hollow people. When I’m with them I just can’t bear it, and wind up saying things I shouldn’t. […] I say things I shouldn’t, do things I shouldn’t do. I can’t control myself. That’s one of my weak points.
パトリス・ルムンバはコンゴをベルギーからの独立させ、コンゴ共和国の初代首相となった。しかし彼の共産主義者的な傾向と、燃え上がるような独立記念日でのスピーチ ”Nous ne sommes plus vos macaques!”（私たちは、もうお前らの猿じゃない！）が問題視され、10週間後にはCIAにそそのかされたグループによるクーデターにより自宅軟禁されてしまう。

Grupo Aliaje はカラカス南部の労働者階級出身の女性のみによるサルサバンド。5年ほど音楽活動をしていて「ベネズエラで唯一の女性のみによるサルサバンド」として営業を続けている。基本的に”Salsa Dura”と呼ばれる60年代末期から70年代にプエルトリコで流行ったアフロキューバンスタイルなんだけども、都市部では過去の音楽とされるものも、労働者階級の集まる地域では未だに聴かれているわけだ。
広く聴かれているタイプの音楽とはいえ、SONY / BMG / Columbia 誰も手を出さない。（女性たちよ、奴隷になるな。勉強して働け！なんていう歌詞に問題があるのかもしれない。）カラカスの小さなラジオ局がかけるくらいで、ベネズエラで彼女たちの存在を知っているものはほとんどいない。自家出版された4曲入りのアルバムはどこでも手にいれることはできない。（僕は米国のインターナショナルラジオで耳にした）ライブ会場でしか発売されてないのだ。
